My Big Fat Mii!

As promised I opened and tried my Wii Fit this weekend. It was awesome! I wasn't too thrilled to see my little Mii turn fat after I entered my stats and stuff, but I have to say she did look more like me after that!

The first thing I tried was the yoga. I love yoga, but am generally not too good at anything requiring balance! One of my goals has always been to be able to stand in tree pose without falling over! I found it very helpful to see where my center of balance was while trying to hold the position. Hopefully now I will be able to master it!

The strength training was hard. Not due to complexity, but because I am very weak. I have not challenged my muscles in ages and so to do even a modified push up was difficult. I am not going to give up on the strength. Another great part about the Wii Fit is it allows you to track activity you do outside your Wii Fit session. So if I wanted to use some free weights to help tone my arms before I get really into the strength training I can do that and keep track. I can have my own fitness journal online!

The last thing I did was a couple of aerobic exercises. I had to step in rhythm which was harder than it sounds (unless of course you are more coordinated than me!) I was real good at the hula hoop though! That was a lot of fun. It was funny to have the Mii my mother in law created throwing hula hoops at me! Last but not least was jogging in place. I generally don't care for that activity too much, but it was better doing it this way. I ran with my whole family of Miis and there is someone in front to pace you. It kept me engaged as I moved.

The next day I was SORE! So after all that fun, I know it was working. I'm sure I stimulated musculed that haven't been used in years! I am definitely going to add my Wii Fit to my daily routine (now if only they can come up with a Wii game to get me organized!)

Have you tried hitting the soccer balls with your head yet? That ones hard! It's funny though because you have to avoid getting hit in the head with flying shoes, panda bears, etc. I like the hula hoop one too. The yoga is good for balancing and stuff, I just wish they also had whole routines instead of individual poses.

That's great that you were sore the next day so you know it's working! All it takes is a few days for it to become a part of your routine and you'll be looking forward to your workouts!

Oh, I did try the soccer balls!! I was terrible at it! haha. I think I missed all the balls but got hit by all the shoes! I have to get my left and right down!

It would be nice if the yoga had routines, but I'll take what I can get for now!

Hi D! It's so nice to see you back on here! I really enjoyed reading your blog, as well as Kristen's. I promise I will start finding time to comment, since today was my first time!
Anyway, I certainly do not view you as being fat, disheveled, OR unkempt!! No way, jose!!(yes, its been a long time since you've heard any of my corny sayings, right??) Seriously though, you are being way too hard on yourself!!
Here is my advice....I hope it helps at least a little. The weather is starting to get nicer. How about going for walks with the kids? Maybe invest in a jogging stroller? I know you probably think that Amanda is too big for one, but we use ours with Hailey all of the time. We go for long walks after work, and our route conveniently has a playground halfway. Once we get closer to the playground, we let the kids out of the stroller and walk, so they can get exercise too. We pack a snack for them, and let them take a book or a toy. I also hook my ipod up to speakers, so we can all listen to good music (duh...Bon Jovi, of course!) while we walk. The more enjoyable you make it, the more inclined you are to stick with it. And I can say from experience, it definitely is a good example to set for the kids. Hailey loves to stand next to me while I am doing any of my video workouts, and she trys her hardest to do exactly what I do. She really enjoys it. She also points at people running when we pass by them in the car, and she says "Mommy, that is just like you, running, right"? Please don't take this the wrong way, I am in no way tooting my own horn....I just wanted to point out to you that is its never too early to start setting examples for the kids. Once Amanda and Ashley start to catch on, you will feel amazing about what you are teaching them!
So in a nutshell, just try to find something that works for you that is fun. Kristen and I will definitely meet up with you one day to walk if you want. We could do Buccleugh Park?
I don't know if you have anything planned on May 16th or not, but I am trying to organize a girls night out. I'll be sending out an evite soon. It will be in Philly though, but you are more than welcome to join us and stay over my sisters with me and Kristen. Think about it. If you are interested, maybe set a goal for yourself to go for X amount of walks before our night out. Or shoot to lose x amount of pounds. If you reach your goal, then maybe reward yourself by buying a new shirt to go out with that night? I don't even know if you are free to go with us that night or if you are even interested, I am just using it as an example. I find that setting goals keeps me motivated.

Good luck D, I know you can do it!! Just keep your head up high. You are a great mom, wife, and friend. Like you said, it is now time to take care of you. HUGS!!!

Thanks Jen for the encouragement/advice. I have an exercise goal (that I will blog about soon). I need to figure out how to get started on it now in small steps. I think I might need to look into the jogging stroller because anything I do I will have both of them with me!

At this age they are so in tune with what your habits are and I certainly don't want them growing up to be couch potatoes! Also I think Amanda could benefit from daily exericse with me because she's such a high energy kid and needs to have an outlet for it. If I can get the good habits instilled now, hopefully they won't be blogging about how to start good habits 30 years from now! LOL

Where is that park that you mentioned? I would love to come for a walk with you after work one day. I could use the exercise and also the socialization!!
